Coach Dawn Simmons

The Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic Foundation is thrilled to announce that Dawn Simmons, Softball Coach at the University of Lynchburg, will be honored with the prestigious Beyond the Spotlight Legacy Achievement Award. This award recognizes Coach Simmons’ exceptional contributions to the sport of softball, the university, and the lives of countless student-athletes during her remarkable 27-year career, marked by a winning record of 719-368-2.

As one of the inaugural recipients of the Beyond the Spotlight Legacy Achievement Award, Coach Simmons joins an elite group of individuals recognized by the King & His Court Historical Preservation Foundation and the Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic Foundation. This award is presented annually to Division III coaches, players, and volunteers who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to the sport of softball. Recipients embody the values of dedication and commitment – the two fundamental pillars that led to King & His Court’s legacy status as the “King of Softball” and brought them worldwide recognition. These same pillars serve as the criteria for selecting award recipients, honoring those who have left a lasting positive impact on the sport.

Coach Simmons’ illustrious career at the University of Lynchburg has been defined by remarkable achievements. She is the winningest softball coach in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) history, leading her teams to a 2019 NCAA Super Regional berth and 2008 National Championship appearances. A three-time ODAC Coach of the Year, Coach Simmons led her teams to the ODAC Tournament in every year of her tenure. Her guidance has resulted in numerous All-State, All-Region, and All-ODAC First-Team players, including a Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner. Beyond the wins and accolades, Coach Simmons is deeply respected for her mentorship, dedication to student-athlete well-being, and commitment to academic excellence.

"Coach Simmons has been an incredible leader and role model for the women that have played of her and she is certainly deserving of being recognized for the impact that she has made" said University of Lynchburg Athletics Director Jon Waters " she has taught her student athletes  that as long as they apply the same work ethic and determination that they learned as a member of her program,  they can be successful in anything that they attempt in life."

Coach Simmons will be formally presented with the Beyond the Spotlight Legacy Achievement Award at the upcoming 18th Annual Triangle Collegiate Softball Classic on March 8th at 2pm at the Raleigh Sports Complex, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
